JHH was founded in 1879 as a subsidiary of Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, it has been recognized as the founding body of American medicine and has been ranked the United States' best hospital in the US News and World Report for 21 consecutive years and recently ranked fifth in the 2014-2015 rankings. With 80,000 patients a week, with more than 1,700 doctors and 30,000 employees, the hospital is the birthplace of neurosurgery, urology, endocrinology and pediatrics. In particular, he has the largest pancreatic cancer clinic and has produced many Nobel Prize winners.

 Founded in 1973, the Cancer Center has become a global leader in deciphering cancer mechanisms and developing new treatments for cancer. The center is accredited by the National Cancer Institute and Professor Nancy Davidson is the President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. William Nelson and Martin Abeloff are former presidents of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and Donald Coffey was formerly president of the American Association for Cancer Research. Professor Stephen Baylin has a very high level of medical staff, including the 2010 NCI Alfred G. Knudson Award for Cancer Genetics.
